6/24/04: TONIGHT! Book of SFX radio:
the year in summation

:: Join us for the last scheduled radio showcase of the Book of SFX, a showcase for found sounds on 90.3 WZBC-Newton ::

We the DJs of SFX manipulated and aired our self-gathered field recordings, environmental noises and our own natural audio creations on (nearly) every Thursday night since September 2003. In December, we aired a sampler of our favorite work from those first three months. Tonight we're airing selections from each original program created and aired from January to May of 2004.

Albeit it's subject to change, this is our last scheduled program for the Book of SFX. Regardless of if you've tuned in before or if you are to be a first-time listener, we hope you'll join us tonight on 90.3 WZBC between 10PM to 11 PM (or later).

For examples of our work, go to our website for boat loads of audio on-demand of most all of the shows we've aired:

http://www.bookofsfx.org

The Appendix with DJ Sonata (featuring No Commercial Potential music) will air after the Book until 1AM, and every Thursday from 10P to 1A for the rest of the summer.

4/1/04: Interpreted: Super Bowl XXXVIII (LISTEN)

Hey y'all,

Tonight is the first night of the Book of SFX in its new timeslot, 10PM to 11PM (we were 1A to 2A Friday mornings since last September), on WZBC 90.3 FM. I know this is kinda late in the day to announce this, but I would like to start giving updates every Thursday of what our show is going to be about that night. Future transmissions should be on Thursday mornings (hopefully).

For those who haven't listened, the Book of SFX is a weekly performance of field recordings and sound experiments gathered during the previous week. Most, but not all, of our material is culled from common events occurring in the Boston area, so we like to think of these sounds as "natural", or what you might hear in your everyday life. We bring the raw sounds into the studio and play and/or manipulate them live on-air for approximately an hour. We typically have a different theme every week.

In this week's volume in the ongoing Book of SFX series:

A 45-minute soundwalk from the waning moments of Sunday's Super Bowl to its glorious aftermath. The walk starts with five minutes left in the game right outside of the Haymarket subway and onto the street, and then moves to Bar 1, back outdoors (with a denial of entry into Bar 2), back into Bar 1 for the final ticks of the clock, back out into the street, and down in the subway. We won't play the walk in its entirety, but will take sound-rich snippets from each singular minute of the walk and play/manipulate those snippets in (approximate) chronological order to create a new hour-long product.

Find archived shows, including this week's, from September 2003 to the present at http://www.bookofsfx.org

After our performance, we'll continue on with No Commercial Potential until 1 AM.

Rawk,
JustinG AKA DJ Sonata
