Magnetic Tape
is a showcase for original audio that features phonography, radio theater,
art, social and political commentary, and some music.
From radio theater to single-person interviews to sound art, Magnetic
Tape is an arts program in an otherwise standard format -- a two-hour
radio slot -- that presents mostly non-musical pieces that either exist
in the public domain or are produced by artists, independent producers
and, on-occasion, larger style-conscious media outlets. Because this program
thrives on in-kind support and volunteer contribution (and because the
presenting station, WZBC, does not answer to stakeholders with tainted
agendas and does not create programming based on monetary interests),
Magnetic Tape is one of the last bastions on the radio waves for unabashedly
artistic, high-quality, talk-based audio productions that unfold on their
own terms.
Magnetic Tape features some radio stories distributed by the Public
Radio Exchange, a repository for exciting audio works created by radio
producers across the country and beyond.
